BCA - Berani Menua

Scroll

Brief

BCA Life needed to make planning for old age feel aspirational rather than fear-driven. The film speaks to productive adults who want to remain independent, active, and fully engaged with life as they grow older—not simply protected from uncertainty.

“Beranilah Menua” turns that promise into a playful imagined future: elderly characters take on wingsuit flying, surfing, parkour, skateboarding, and motorcycling with youthful confidence. The message is simple—courage in later life is not accidental; it is made possible by the choices and preparations taken today.

Approach

The film uses an anime-inspired AI animation style to externalise the protagonist’s emotional state. Crowded urban environments make him feel even more isolated, while the forest and junkyard become heightened spaces for self-reflection. Wide compositions, centered character framing, and contrasting shifts in colour and scale emphasize the distance between the protagonist and the world around him. As the film moves toward a warmer and more open environment, the visual language also becomes less oppressive. The final movement suggests that connection does not always begin with a grand gesture; sometimes it starts with a single word, spoken before loneliness has the chance to become permanent.
